DKP Rules (submitted by Shunli at 12:13pm CEST)

For Wrath we have decided to adopt a different way of using dkp which would better support our overall raid aims. The new system is designed to be a transparent loot distribution system for 25 man raids which supports progression instead of being a plain reward system and which actively engages raiders and section leaders to work together to maximise raid performance. We want the emphasis to move from personal benefit to overall raid benefit as well as combat dkp inflation and remove the price variations for the same item.

The main principles will be as follows :

• Fixed items costs
• Transparent and compulsory item assignment
• Zero sum points distribution

This is quite a radical departure from the way we have handled dkp so far so please take the time to read this thread slowly and carefully a few times. There are examples along the way to illustrate how the system will work in practice. Should you have any questions or require further clarification do not hesitate to ask any of the officers.

----------------------------------------------------------------

EARNING DKP

The amount of dkp earned is equal to the dkp spent on items by the raid as a whole on that day. It is based on the number of item points spent by the raiders and the number of raiders and reserves present at the time.

This is best illustrated through an example:
Monday raid: 25 raiders and 6 reserves attend, 4 items drop and are assigned for a total final cost of 120 points. Each raider and reserve will receive: 120/31 = 3.87 points

On that day, the raid spent 120 points, the raiders and reserves therefore earn 120 points which are distributed equally amongst them. Reserves are awarded full points.

ITEM VALUES & FINAL COST

Items have set values per tier which raiders will only pay once per item slot.
When upgrading to a new tier item raiders will be able to deduct the cost of their initial purchase from the new cost.
This final cost is calculated by the upgrade value of that item regardless of whether it is part of a main spec or an off spec set. Resistance items are free.

Item Values
Every item will belong to a tier table and will be weighted within that tier according to set slot modifiers.
Each Tier table will have a set value which will be arbitrarily assigned by the raid leaders. Tier Table 7 has a set value of 20.

The item values will be as follows (T8, T9 and Legendary are only there as an example and will be set by the raid leaders at a later date):

User-posted image

So for instance a helm drop which belongs to the T7 table will have a set fixed cost of 20dkp and a sword drop which belongs to the T8 table will have a set fixed cost of 50dkp.

Item Final Cost
Although the item values are fixed, the item’s final cost depends on whether that item is an upgrade and whether the old item was bought within the system.
Only resistance items will always have a final cost of 0 points.
When a raider upgrades an item bought within the system, the cost of the previous purchase is subtracted from the price of the new item. This will encourage raiders to upgrade whenever possible.

Let’s take a few examples to illustrate this. The item drop here is a helm which values are T7:20, T8:50 and T9:100.

Raider A starts raiding and gets a T7 helm drop. He pays 20 points for it.
A few raids along and raider A gets the T8 Helm. He now pays 30 points (50-20) for the upgrade since the T8 helm is worth 50 points and he has already paid 20 points for the T7 Helm.
A lot more raids later, the T9 helm drops and our lucky raider A gets it. He now pays 50 points for it since he has now spent 20+30=50 points previously.
At the end of the raiding season Raider A has spent a total of 100 points for his T9 helm.

Raider B starts raiding and gets a T8 helm drop. He pays 50 points for it.
A few raids along and raider B gets the T8 Helm for his offspec gear. He pays 0 points for the upgrade since he has already paid 50 for the T8 Main spec helm.
Then the T9 helm drops and raider B gets it. He pays 50 points for it.
At the end of the raiding season Raider B has also spent a total of 100 points for his T9 helm.

Raider C starts raiding and gets a T8 equivalent helm drop. He pays 50 points for it.
A few raids along and raider C gets the T8 Helm. He pays 0 points for the upgrade since he has already paid for that tier’s helm price.
A few raids along and raider C gets the T8 Helm for his offspec gear. He pays 0 points for it.
The T9 helm drops for raider C and he pays 50 points for it.
At the end of the raiding season Raider C has also spent a total of 100 points for his T9 helm.

The final cost is what is used to calculate the points won on the day by the raid.

SPENDING DKP

All loot and item drops will always be assigned, banked or disenchanted as a last resort.
The priorities which govern loot distribution are the following:

1. Declared raid priorities
2. Current dkp total or raid/section leader assignment
3. Raid off specs
4. Non raid specs

By default, items are assigned to the eligible raider with the current highest amount of points unless the raid/section leaders decide that the upgrade for that raider is not justified at that time ie another raider would benefit more from the item or the dropped item is one of the declared raid priorities. Attendance and overall raid benefit will be factors taken into consideration when taking such action.

The raid leader has a right of Veto: he can arbitrate on item distribution/loot assignment method (open discussion, rolling etc.) in case of ties or if he deems that the raid’s needs would be better served with a different assignment, with the limitation that the raid leader cannot make assignments that are favorable to himself.

If there is no clear assignment for the item (ie the item is not a clear upgrade), the section leaders will consider possible secondary uses for that item: minor upgrades, offspec raid upgrades and lastly non raid roles and assign it accordingly. In the event that no use can be found for the item it will be disenchanted.

The raid leaders reserve the right to prioritize specific items. At this point in time the tanking items for pure tanking specs are declared raid priorities.

NB: This post will be updated with the tier set values and maybe some additional examples at a later date so please check it regularly.
